It happened on Thursday, Aug. 29 just before 8 p.m. when police were dispatched to Deep Valley Road for a report of youths riding ATVs on the street.

Officers who arrived at the scene talked to Robert Avery about the youths riding the ATVs and enduro-style motorcycles on the street and private lane near his residence, according to New Canaan Police.

Officers made contact with a youth possibly involved in the incident, and while attempting to interview the youth, police say Avery became disruptive and continued to attempt to prevent the officers from conducting an investigation, police said.

Avery continued to interrupt the officers and yelled, attempting to prevent them from speaking to the youth, police said.

Avery was taken into custody after numerous warnings from the officers to stop interrupting, according to police.

He was charged with interfering with an officer/resisting.
